Grading Policy
Students earn their individual grades; I do not give them grades.
They are responsible for their own learning by taking advantage of all opportunities presented to them.
Grades are calculated using a weighted average system.
Tests are weighted at 40 to 60%; assignments, other evaluations and extra point opportunities are weighted at 40 to 60%.
Activities on "F-days" (the attendance day assigned to Science) are given value, but the student has to be present and participate to earn those points - there are no excuses.
Also, participation in Castle Learning opportunities may be awarded point values.
The opportunity to have a low grade modified is based on the student being present for tests given during a marking period. Absentees do not always have the opportunity to make-up a missed test (which are not "zeros").
The average is the percentage of points earned out of the points total available for each student.
If the student does not pass on their "academic average" (i.e., their average on tests is less than 65%) in a marking period, the final report card grade may be that average and all other points will not be counted.
Also, if a student passes the first several tests then "shuts down" to pass the quarter all other points will not be counted.
If a student shows improvement through a quarter, then "adjustments" may be made.
Homework Policy
Homework, if not a specific assignment, consists of reviewing current topics covered.
Homework assignments are due as directed when given out.
