Grading Policy
Your report card grade will be based on the following:

Essays - 25%
Book reports - 25%
Journals - 10%
Classwork - 15%
Homework - 15%
Quizzes - 10%

 

 

Homework Policy
Homework is given daily. Each day an assignment is handed in late 5 points will be deducted from your homework grade. No homework will be accepted if it is more than three days late. If a student is absent the day as assignment is due, it must be handed in at the beginning of the class the day the student returns to school.

 

 

Test Policy
There will not be any major tests in ESL. In place of tests, you will be graded on your execution of the writing process in assigned writing pieces.

 

 

Quiz Policy
Quizzes will be announced and given only periodically. A quiz will be based mainly on grammar concepts. You will have plenty of practice before a quiz.

 

 

Projects
Each quarter you will have a project bsed on a story or novel of your choosing. Classtime will be spent organizing the project and you will be given library time to do research sa needed. The projects will account for 25% of your quarterly grade.

 

 

Course Outline
The goal of English as a Second Langauge class is to help all high school students become completely proficient int he English language. The class is a comprehensive English course designed to teach the students how to write a well developed essay using proper English grammar. The students will also have exposure to a variety of literature genres and literary elements to begin preparation for the English Language Arts Regents Exam.
